Overview
Garden Planner is an AI-powered gardening assistant. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.
Data We Collect
We collect and store the following information:
- Garden profiles — your USDA zone, soil type, sun exposure, and other garden characteristics you provide during onboarding or in conversation.
- Location data — approximate location (city/zip code level) used for weather, frost dates, and sun exposure analysis. We do not track precise GPS coordinates.
- User-generated content — garden plans, wishlists, playbook entries, task lists, shopping lists, and photos you upload (including for the Reimagine feature).
- Conversation history — all chat and voice interactions with the AI advisor are logged for safety, debugging, and quality improvement purposes. Conversations may be summarized and key facts extracted into long-term memory to improve future advice.
- Email preferences — your choices about which notifications (weekly digest, frost alerts, planting window alerts) you want to receive.
- Account information — name, email address, and profile picture provided via Google OAuth sign-in.
How We Use Your Data
- Personalized advice — your garden profile data is used to tailor AI-generated recommendations to your specific growing conditions.
- Task scheduling — location and zone data help us generate timely planting reminders and frost alerts.
- Service improvement — conversation logs help us identify issues, improve AI accuracy, and ensure safety.
- Email notifications — we send transactional emails (weekly digests, alerts) based on your preferences. You can unsubscribe at any time via one-click links in every email.
AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
All gardening advice provided by Garden Planner is generated by artificial intelligence and is for informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional horticultural, agricultural, or landscaping advice. Always verify critical decisions (e.g., pesticide use, plant toxicity, structural landscaping) with a qualified professional. We make no guarantees about the accuracy or completeness of AI-generated advice.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Garden Planner:
- Google OAuth — for authentication. We receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
- Google Gemini AI — for generating garden reimagination images and deck cover art. Prompts and uploaded images are sent to Google's API.
- Tavily — for real-time web search when the AI needs current information (e.g., local weather, product availability).
- Resend — for sending transactional emails (weekly digests, frost alerts, planting window notifications).
- Sentry — for error tracking and performance monitoring. Error reports may include anonymized usage context.
Cookies
We use session cookies for authentication. These are essential cookies required for the app to function and are not used for tracking or advertising. No third-party tracking cookies are used.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you.
- Delete — request deletion of your account and all associated data, including garden profiles, conversation history, and long-term memory.
- Export — request an export of your garden data in a portable format.
- Unsubscribe — opt out of any or all email notifications at any time via the preference center or one-click unsubscribe links.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in encrypted databases. Conversation history and long-term memory are stored separately from your garden content data. We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, but no system is perfectly secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
